Getting Ready to Raid, Quebecois Style
In the tiny town of Remigny, QC 29 teams of adventure athletes have gathered for the opening ceremony of a three day stage race, starting tomorrow morning. For many adventure racers, stage racing will be a bit of a twist on an old favorite. Instead of pushing through sleep deprivation, after each day of adventure racing, times are taken and the teams can rest overnight and prepare for the next day’s challenges with their support crews.
Tomorrow is a relatively easy start in which teams will be paired with local high school students for a short prologue which is a mini adventure race in itself. The youth athletes will have a chance to compete alongside the pros and we might just see some of the future adventure racing stars out there tomorrow.
After a very well produced opening ceremony with a big media presence, elders from the Timiskaming First Nation offered prayers, songs and a Smudging ceremony for all the teams and their support personnel.
