Families Line up for the 3 Hour Maine Summer Adventure Race

Just over 100 people participated in this year’s 3 Hour version of the Maine Summer Adventure Race. Teams of friends and families - many new to the sport of adventure racing - took to the same course as the pros, albeit a small portion of the 24 Hour race. They spent their time mainly in the Kate Furbish preserve, mountain biking and trekking to find 17 CPs often referred to as control points or checkpoints.

Do you think you have what it takes to do what all of these folks just did? Adventure Racing is hard, but it’s also accessible and welcoming to newcomers. With a “choose your own adventure” feeling to the courses, teams can take it easy and focus on having fun or push hard for the podium. If you love hiking, mountain biking, paddling and scavenger hunts, this is the sport for you. Whether you come for the afternoon to have fun or to compete, the 3 Hour race is a great introduction to Adventure Racing. For those who want to pursue it further, there are more and more opportunities to race in events from 8 hours to 8 days.

Check out the maps and race rules for the 2024 Maine Summer Adventure Race 3 Hour edition. How would you plot your course to visit each CP and return to the finish as quickly as possible and within the 3 hour time limit?
